Dear Manufacturing Skilled-Trades Students,
We’re starting to get companies interested in hiring community college skilled-trades students for part-time internships during the Spring semester. We have fourteen companies signed up, and expect more to sign up over the next 2 weeks (see list below).

If you’re interested in gaining industry experience this semester (and getting paid), please see the details below, and sign up by January 30 at:

The earlier you sign up, the better as we will work to start placing students in the next week.

Faculty, please forward to your students.

Thanks,
Mark

Dear Community College Skilled Trades Students,
If you're a California community college student enrolled in the skilled trades next semester (Winter/Spring 2019) and are interested in finding a part-time internship in a manufacturing company while you’re in school, please keep reading.

The California Community Colleges Advanced Manufacturing team is working to connect students with internships for up to 150 hours. Pay would be $15/hour and students would work 15-20 hours per week around your school schedule. You will be hired (temporarily) by the companies, and your internships would end by June 30, 2019.

Our goal is to help students gain work experience and to potentially find companies that you might work for full-time.

We’ve created a student APPLICATION FORM at:

https://goo.gl/forms/1u8P4jtJmrWJVFYM2

The form asks you to upload your resume in PDF form, so have that ready.

The information you input on the form will be shared with companies that want to hire interns.
Note - if you’re interested in a particular company, you’re free to reach out to them and let them know about this opportunity (they can find details for companies at: http://bayareamanufacturingcareers.com/internships.html).

We will share the information you input with companies that have expressed interest. They will contact you if they see a good match, and will request an interview (either over the phone or in person).  If you both agree that it's a good fit, you and the company will be responsible for working out the details of the internships (days of the week, times, start and end dates, etc.). We have asked the companies to pay $15/hour, so that should not be something that needs to be worked out.

If you do talk with a company, you'll want to discuss what work you might be doing during the internship. Recognize that while companies will want to get you experience with the skills you're learning (machining, welding, electronics, etc.), 150 hours is not a lot of time, and depending on shifting customer demand, safety concerns, etc. you'll need to be flexible to perform a variety of duties (yes, even cleaning up the shop :-)

Thanks and please let me know if you have any questions.

Regards,

Note: You must be enrolled while you're in the internship, and can not be working for (or have worked for) the company sponsoring the internship. You will be hired by the company (or by a temp agency) and employment is at-will. We expect a lot of demand for these internships, so not every person will be contacted by a company.
