Hi Mark,

We have an exciting brake press role open at Stealth Space Company. Can you send this around to your network?

Application link: https://grnh.se/3ba5fe232

A stealth space company is changing the way we provide access to space and we need your help getting there!

Who we are

We are a small, highly entrepreneurial team of rocket engineers with deep technical expertise who love to build things and relish the idea of a grand challenge, but not without a sense of humor along the way.

We believe that space is the ultimate high ground, and we are on a mission to provide routine access to earth orbit for the entrepreneurs and enterprises that are launching a new generation of services powered by small satellites that will connect, observe, and influence our planet.  Building on over a decade of technology development in rocket propulsion, structures, and avionics, we are applying a fast-paced, hardware-focused, agile approach to space launch.

Are you an engineer, hacker, maker, physicist who has always dreamed of building rockets? Come help us build the hardware and launch the services that will open the frontier of space to the next generation of entrepreneurs and make daily access to space routine, for the first time on the planet. With dedication and a bias towards action, your first year will reward you with the pleasure of watching your handiwork leave the Earth's atmosphere!

How you'll help us achieve our mission...

As a CNC brake press operator in our state-of-the-art machine shop you carry a variety of responsibilities. You'll put your CAM skills to the test, ensuring that rush work and certain rework is performed quickly and to the needs of our designers and builders on our CNC brake press. You will see parts through from start to finish, working from solid models to cut your own flat patterns on an Omax waterjet. General shop maintenance and upkeep will be one of your regular duties. Are you looking for a great way to challenge yourself, build new skills, and solve some of the most exciting manufacturing problems in our industry -- all in a startup atmosphere? This is the place.

You will help build our rockets! As part of our small, tight-knit production team, you’ll work on the shop floor. Use your CNC brake press expertise to help bring our engineering ideas to life.  Expect to:

  • Operate support machinery, including tumblers, hand brakes, slip rolls, shears, and hand tools
  • Setup, maintain, and operate our CNC brake press in order to make parts, and perform rework
  • Program using a brake press CAM package and waterjet CAD/CAM package, and use other software such as Excel, Word, etc.
  • Identify, select, and manage tooling inventory for current and future jobs
  • Set up and operate rollers, slip-rolls, shears, and hand brakes
  • Setup, operate, and maintain waterjet machine to cut flat patterns
  • Operate drill presses to drill, countersink, ream, tap holes as needed.
  • Run non-formed parts on the waterjet as needed
  • Enforce safe machine operation while assisting designers and interns as they use shop tools
  • Efficiently use time and resources to manage deadlines
  • Continuously share your knowledge with the team to expand the breadth of the group

Can you do this job?

  • 5+ years working in a sheet metal fabrication environment AND 2+ years programming a CNC brake press
  • Deep understanding of bend allowances, minimum/maximum flange lengths, and other technical aspects of working with a brake press
  • Good communication skills
  • Comfort operating machinery and getting your hands dirty
  • Familiarity with a variety of materials (aluminum, copper, brass, steel, and stainless)
  • Willingness to monitor machine maintenance and upkeep, and keep a clean shop
  • Comfort inspecting parts to meet print tolerances using calipers, micrometers, and height gauges
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced, self-driven entrepreneurial workplace

Desired Multipliers

  • 1+ years aerospace-related experience manufacturing lightweight complex parts
  • Experience operating waterjets or laser cutters for making flat parts
  • One or more formal shop classes taken in school
  • Machining experience
  • Experience with CAM software, or CAD software such as SolidWorks or NX
  • Geometric Dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) understanding
  • Certification as forklift operator
