We are looking for a Fabrication Technician to join our team. In this role you will be responsible for fabricating new parts and assemblies and will work closely with Mechanical Engineers to understand their needs. This is a great role for someone who is detail-oriented and likes solving complex problems. This role will build small manufacturing runs, prototypes, and test equipment.
Who You Are
- 3 years of fabrication experience
- Fabrication knowledge using various techniques such as MIG welding, drilling, grinding, sawing, bending and sheet metal tools
- Enthusiasm for working collaboratively with engineering and electrical
- Mill and lathe experience
- Excellent time management skills
- Excellent attention to detail
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to stand for extended periods
- Preferably, knowledge of Solidworks

Day to day:
- Read and interpret technical drawings and GD&T
- Weld, machine, bend, and use a variety of hand tools to fabricate parts to spec
- Measure and test completed components to meet quality and functional requirements
- Work with engineers and management to identify improvements to manufacturability and build process
- Communicate effectively within the Hardware team and with others
- Set up, operate, and maintain shop tools and equipment in a safe manner, using appropriate PPE
- Use time and material resources responsibly to meet budgetary requirements and deadlines
- Maintain shop inventory of consumables, hardware, and material
- Maintain a clean shared workspace and tools

- Familiarize yourself with the different components of our machine and the build process
- Understand Canvas' goals and how Hardware fits into them
- Get to know the tools the Hardware team uses (Solidworks and JIRA)

- Start building your first batch of second generation drywall robots with the support of the team
- Support internal teams with repair requests
In three months, you’ll…
- Finish building your first batch of second generation drywall robots
- Make recommendations to improve manufacturability and build process
In one year, you’ll…
- Develop prototypes for our next generation machine
- Participate in design reviews with engineering
- Build (and sometimes design) test equipment for various Canvas teams

This role operates primarily in a work-room environment around moving mechanical parts and in conditions that include heat. Noise level may be loud at times. Someone in this role must be able to move objects weighing up to 50 lbs., and use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue. Additionally, this role requires constant movement and use of limbs inclusive of good manual dexterity to handle small parts, coordination and stamina.
