One thing that is being asked for a lot is knowledge of PLC’s (programmable logic controllers). Laney doesn’t have a class in this right now, but we are developing an automation class that will cover some of the basics. Planning to have ready by the Fall. In the meantime, Chabot College and SJCC have classes. Also you can look online for some basic introductions to the subject.

As Mechanic you will be responsible for the mechanical uptime of production equipment and facilities for our two Hayward Operations.  This position is non-exempt (hourly) and will require overtime and weeknight/weekend/holiday work. 

 

This are Swing and Grave Shifts positions.  Must also be flexible to work any shift (day,swing or grave)


Typical Responsibilities and
Demonstrated Experience will include:

·       Troubleshoot stoppages on production and packaging lines.

·       Perform essential and preventative mechanical maintenance on production equipment and facilities.

·       Plan, organize and perform fabrications as directed.

·       Specify and order parts and other consumables.

·       Ensure tasks are completed safely and on time with suitable quality craftsmanship.

·       Responsible for  tool and parts inventories

·       Document work for accountability and audit conformance.

Basic Qualifications:

·       Ability to prioritize work load in a systematic fashion

·       Customer service oriented, perform well in a team environment

·       Work cleanly and well organized

·       Champion capital and continuous process improvement projects

·       Develop Process and Instrumentation Diagrams

·       Actively participate in brainstorming sessions and openly exchange information

·       Must have strong oral and written communication skills, and have demonstrated effective interpersonal skills to interface with business partners in a competent, productive manner.

·       Team Dynamics – Empowerment, Collaboration, Motivation and Enthusiasm - Strong interpersonal skills and willingness to work in a team environment.

·       Vocational/technical training and minimum 5 years of Journeyman level practical experience

·       Demonstrated strong mechanical orientation and aptitude

·       Experience with servo drives and robotics

·       Electronic and circuit board familiarity, ability to configure drives and related components

·       Competencies with PLC, program level diagnostics, analog and digital field devices, Allen-Bradley a plus

·       Working knowledge of service utilities maintenance, 480/240V three phase, 110V single phase, power distribution, HVAC and refrigeration a plus

·       Ability to read electrical schematics

·       Must have machine tool and mechanical fabrication knowledge and welding ability

·       Familiarity with electrical control troubleshooting

·       Food Manufacturing experience a plus

·       Must be able to speak and write English proficiently, additional language skills preferred

·       E-mail proficiency, MS Excel, math and writing skills.

·       Must be able to work on and around equipment, lift 50-100 pounds frequently, must be able to work entire shift on feet
