Machine Shop Assistant

The internship program offers a learning opportunity for the Laney College Machine Technology student in applying machinist and related skills in an R&D environment.

DOER runs an in house R&D, short run machine shop consisting of CNC, manual and waterjet machines. 

Working as a machine shop assistant under direction of a machine shop manager and operations manager, the intern will assist in performing machining and mechanical work involving the fabrication, assembly, modification and maintenance and repair of specialized equipment, organization and custodial tasks of the shop, files and stock.

The intern will receive assignments based on his/her skills and abilities.

Internship applicants must meet the following requirements:

-       Be at least 18 years of age

-       Have completed at least 2 semesters with a minimum GPA of 2.5 in an accredited 4 semester college certificate program in Machine Technology

-       Be able to perform physical work

-       Be motivated and able to work independently as well as with team members

-       Possess computer skills including using Windows based computer system

-       Possess a familiarity with CAD and CAM systems

 

This position may become a part time position while completing college or full time position for the correct individual.
