THE POSITION
Under general supervision, installs, troubleshoots, maintains, and repairs mechanical equipment and machinery found in District water treatment plants, distribution systems, and related facilities; and performs related duties as assigned. This classification
is responsible for performing the full range of mechanical maintenance duties, working independently, and exercising judgment and initiative. Positions at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and are
fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit.

Training: Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12th) grade and completion of a mechanical apprenticeship or
completion of a two-year program at an accredited community college or trade school.
Experience: Three (3) years of experience in installation, maintenance, and repair of mechanical equipment, systems, and components.
Licenses and Certifications:
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Must possess mobility to work in the plant and field; strength, stamina, and mobility to perform medium to heavy physical work; to sit, stand, and walk on level, uneven, or slippery surfaces; frequently reach, twist, turn, kneel, bend, stoop, squat, crouch,
grasp, and make repetitive hand movement in the performance of daily duties; to climb and descend ladders, to operate varied hand and power tools and equipment, and to operate a motor vehicle and visit various District sites; and vision to read printed materials
and a computer screen. The job involves fieldwork requiring frequent walking in operational areas to identify problems or hazards and working in confined spaces. Finger dexterity is needed to operate and maintain tools and equipment. Employees must possess
the ability to carry, push, pull, and lift materials and objects weighing up to 50 pounds with the use of proper equipment.
ENVIRONMENTAL ELEMENTS
Employees work in the plant and field and are exposed to loud noise levels, cold and hot temperatures, inclement weather conditions, road hazards, vibration, chemicals, mechanical and/or electrical hazards, hazardous physical substances and fumes, dust, and
air contaminants. Employees may be exposed to blood borne pathogens.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Employees are required to meet California Occupational Safety and Health Administration (CalOSHA) Respiratory Protection Program guidelines including passing a fit test and annual medical examinations and complying with on-demand shave policy.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Employees may be required to work outside their Normal Workweek/Workday which may consist of evenings, weekends, and holidays.
