jOB DESCRIPTION

Tesla is seeking a highly motivated and skilled R&D Fabricator/Welder to provide our R&D and Engineering teams with prototype components, assemblies, and vehicles to enhance and shorten the design/build/test process. Join a fast paced and rapidly growing team that works on the most advanced battery, motor, gear box, and drive inverter components. Integrate Tesla’s advanced Powertrain components into new vehicles. Work closely with engineers and technicians.

 

primary Responsibility

Read and interpret CAD files, engineering drawings, weld symbols, and GD&T

Set up welding equipment (amperage, voltage, wire speed, etc) to maximize efficiency/effectiveness

Perform TIG, MIG, and CMT welding on aluminum, steel, and copper (all alloys)

Weld in all positions: vertical, horizontal, flat, and overhead

 

Secondary Responsibilities

Prepare all materials prior to welding
Bend tubes and cope accordingly
Bend and weld sheet metal (aluminum and steel)
Modify pre-existing structures (bodies, chassis, sub frames, jigs, etc) to accept new components and accommodate design changes
Machine components on a manual mill and manual lathe
Operate and cut material on large 2D plasma cutter
Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area
 

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED

Weld certification (preferred, not required)

Minimum of 3-5 years of metal fabrication (tube bending, sheet metal, chassis work)

Minimum of 5 years of full time welding experience
