Hi all,
Just visited this start-up. They’re developing a hybrid EV for trucks (think delivery and garbage trucks) using a small-turbine for electrical generation. One of the co-founders of Tesla is the founder of this company.

They’re looking for a CNC machinist and programmer. As most start-ups are, they’re looking for someone who can work well as part of the team, is self-directed (i.e., knows how to manage their own time, and can fix problems as they come up), and is flexible as new challenges/problems come up.

Manufacturing Technician

Manufacturing overview and Job description

Our manufacturing model is a little unusual in that we own the designs and the IP for the entire product. We purchase cells, pumps, fans, compressors, fittings etc. and we make all the subsystems from motors and inverters, gearboxes, battery packs, even the turbine engine and generator. We don't do any casting, forging, almost no machining, no electronic assembly. There aren't raw materials coming in one end of the factory and a lot of complex processes performed on them to make large quantities of a small range of products. We don't make semiconductors, or disk drives, or phones, or consumer electronics. We don't make gears, or wind motor stators. We get those kinds of processes performed at our suppliers. They do casting, forging, machining, welding, electronic assembly, chip fabrication. They ship us the components and subassemblies.

We use contract manufacturers for the electronics and cable assemblies and various suppliers for gears, castings, engine parts and heat exchangers and then we perform subsystem assembly and test, final system assembly and test.  The primary role of the Manufacturing Technician will be to collaborate  in the designs and processes between the Design Engineering team the suppliers and the suppliers’ capabilities.   What we need are people who understand the wide variety of the ways in which parts are made; people who can go to a supplier and really understand and qualify their capability, and then look at our part designs and cause them to match.

Roles and Responsibilities

Manufacturing Technician will be responsible for manufacturing quality products efficiently, accurately, safely and on time.

We are seeking a Welder/Fabricator to be responsible for building subcomponents and systems for our equipment. The Welder/Fabricator will also support other mechanical technicians in the machine construction process.
