Materials Engineering Laboratory Technician 
Anamet, inc. provides materials engineering analysis and laboratory testing services to a diverse base of industries, government entities, and law firms. Anamet’s core competencies include Materials Failure Analysis, Mechanical and Metallurgical Testing, and Chemical Analysis. Anamet has built long-term relationships with our clients by consistently delivering practical, timely, and cost-effective solutions to their testing and engineering evaluation needs. 

Anamet Inc. is currently seeking a full-time (40 hrs per week) Materials Engineering Laboratory Technician. 
Summary 
This position is responsible for performing a wide variety of job activities and responsibilities in several departments across the business, including testing, evaluations and inspections. 
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities 
Perform testing in the Mechanical Testing Department using Instron and Satec Universal tension/compression machines and a digital Charpy V-notch (CVN) impact tester. Work with engineers to design and build test fixtures to accomplish custom mechanical testing as needed. 
Prepare specimens for chemical analysis in the Chemistry Department and for metallurgical evaluation in the Metallurgy Department using high-speed abrasive cut-off saws, slow-speed diamond saws, metallurgical grinding and polishing equipment, and perform metallography on prepared specimens on an optical metallograph. 
Perform Rockwell, Brinell and Macro-Vickers hardness testing, and Knoop/Vickers microhardness testing. 
Perform manual and semi-automatic (DRO) machining in the Machine Shop of test specimens per ASTM, ANSI, AWS, API or customer specifications from carbon steels, stainless steels, aluminum alloys, copper alloys, titanium alloys, plastics, polymer composites and ceramic materials. 
Periodically assist staff engineers (BS-PhD) with in-house and field inspections and testing within the local Bay Area. Some local travel in your personal vehicle within the Bay Area may occasionally be required. 

Qualifications 
Education: Post-secondary technical school, community college or higher education credentials preferred. 
Experience: Experience in a materials testing laboratory given high preference, but not required to qualify for this position. Please document in your resume or cover letter any specific relevant experience. 

Skills: 

Basic algebra and calculator skills 

Mechanical aptitude 

Experience with manual machining techniques and equipment including lathes, mills, surface grinders, band saws, drill press and basic shop hand tools 

Ability to read and interpret a basic engineering drawing 

Basic computer skills and a working knowledge of MS office software 

Most importantly, seeking a fast learner with a willingness to continually learn new technical skills, and a reliable team player with a strong work ethic and customer-centric mind-set. 

Physical Demands 
Ability to lift at least 60 lbs. 
Other Requirements 
Schedule: Typical working hours 8 AM – 5 PM, but some flexibility (e.g., 9 AM - 6 PM) and willingness to work some overtime will be required on short notice, but rarely. 
Substance Abuse Testing: Individual shall be subject to pre-employment drug and alcohol testing and background check.
