Hi Mark,
It was great speaking with you in regards to the job opportunity with Anamet. I’ve included the job description below, the pay rate would be $24-$30/hr based on experience. Please have anyone in your professional network reach out to me for further details. I can be reached at 510-214-1655.

Thank you!

A materials engineering and testing laboratory located in Hayward, CA seeks an experienced Manual Machinist on a temporary basis to work in our in-house machine shop. Experience with metals and plastics machining is required.
The ideal candidate will be well experienced in set-up and operation of a vertical band saw, guillotine saw, lathe, DRO mill, surface and pedestal grinders and drill press. Experience working with a Bridgeport Acu-Rite DRO mill is a big plus.
The finished products produced by our machine shop are primarily ASTM test specimens (tensile bars, Charpy V-notch bars and bend specimens) machined from specific locations on industrial components that are then tested in our in-house mechanical testing laboratory by mechanical test technicians.
Qualified candidates should be a self-starter with the ability to read and understanding basic machine drawings and hand sketches containing common machining symbols and terminology. Must be proficient in English and have good verbal communication skills. Communication with the testing services supervisor (a PhD materials engineer), other lab technicians and staff engineers (BS to PhD level) will occur on almost a daily basis.
Job responsibilities of the manual machinist include:

* Review “job travelers” paperwork submitted to the machinists queue daily by the testing manager and follow those machining instructions, understand the importance of cutting specimens from specified locations as indicated by the testing manager and on hand sketches/drawings with the job traveler-- sometimes from large industrial components such as pipe, structural beams, thick-walled plate, castings and forgings, and sometimes from very small pieces of submitted material.
* Each job can different from the previous, and different from the next. This is not a rote, production-type of machinist position.
* Machine a variety of metals but primarily carbon steel and low-alloy steels, stainless steel, aluminum, and brasses, as well as common industrial plastics such as HDPE and epoxy-based composites. Nickel-based alloys, titanium and other exotic metals require ASTM specimen machining on occasion, but rarely.
* Maintain identification of machined specimens by stamping a unique number or other I.D. on each specimen, as directed by the testing services supervisor.
* Handle specimen machining jobs from start to finish. The job starts with a review of the job traveler with the testing manager and set-up of the manual machines required for the job, and ends with the machined specimen prepared to appropriate tolerances and surface condition and ready for subsequent testing in the mechanical testing department.

* Maintain safe machining operations by adhering to safety procedures and internal safety requirements.

* Work alongside an incumbent skilled machinist, often on separate projects but sometimes in tandem on the same project.
* Must be able to lift 50 lbs. Lifting devices available in the machine shop if heavier samples are submitted that need to be saw cut into more manageable sizes.
* Special machining projects for the engineers on staff may occur on occasion and include fabrication of mechanical testing fixtures that will be used in a universal tensile tester from sketches provided by the engineer.
Skills/Qualifications:

At least 3-5 years as a manual machinist, basic math skills, attention to detail, good verbal communication skills, able to work in a fast-paced environment at times.
Compensation depends on experience, a release to perform a background check and 2 employer or skills-verification references required.
A basic hands-on machining test in our machine shop may be requested during the interview. We are an equal opportunity employer (EOE).
