Hey Shop Leaders, there seems to be a trend of more and more jobs in this field, hopefully we can all keep up (and keep good people). I recently chatted with this company that is in stealth start-up mode and is hiring for a Lead Fabricator.
Lead Fabricator/Woodworker (CNC, Woodworking, Construction Materials)
Social Construct is a construction startup that’s delivering great buildings for radically less—so all of us can live in places we love. We are well-financed, led by an experienced team, and has strong customer interest.
Simplify thrice. Measure twice. Cut once: You'll be a key member of the production team, and we will rely on your feedback. This is not a “make things as you're told” job. We value autonomy and creative problem-solving.
Must-Have Experience:
Expertise in working with wood to produce furniture and other large objects.
Expertise with a wide range of machinery and software, including CAD, CNC, woodworking (metalworking experience is a plus).
Volume production experience. (Scale our fabrication process from making one piece to 100s of pieces)
Shop management experience.
Expert knowledge of how different woods and materials age in real world conditions.
Your Talents: An experienced prototyper who solves important problems by building real products. You are a:
Self-directed learner who enjoys new challenges
Clear communicator
Organized and pay attention to the details to solve problems before they begin.
Experienced in working with construction materials (wood, gypsum, concrete, etc.)
Exceptionally productive
The Team: We’re a small team. You must have strong work ethic to thrive in an unstructured and fast-paced company. You will work with a product designer, mechanical engineer, construction workers, other prototypers.
We’re ambitious and tackling an important problem—the lack of housing. So big challenges should energize you. Social Construct is a mission-driven company, and we offer a suite of benefits, including stock options and competitive pay. We’re in San Francisco.
