This Water/Wastewater Career Exploration event is open to all --veterans, family, friends, supporters of veterans, students, and the public.

On Wed., Nov. 7, 11:30am-3:30pm, Las Positas College will host “Honoring Our Veterans, Exploring Water Industry Careers” in partnership with:

·         BAYWORK -- a consortium of Bay Area water and wastewater utilities working to ensure a reliable workforce to serve our customers and protect the environment

·         CWEA (California Water Environment Association) -- a not-for-profit public benefit association of 10,000-plus water quality professionals

·         EDD (California Employment Development Department) -- a Department of the State of California, connecting job seekers and employers in an effort to build the economy of the Golden State

·         JVS (Jewish Vocational Service) -- San Francisco Bay Area's leading nonprofit helping people to build in-demand skills and find good jobs

·         Swords to Plowshares -- Founded in 1974, Swords to Plowshares is a community-based not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization that provides counseling and case management, rapid re-housing and eviction prevention services, employment and training, supportive housing, and legal benefits assistance for low-income, homeless and at-risk veterans in the San Francisco Bay Area. Swords to Plowshares promotes and protects the rights of veterans through advocacy, public education, and partnerships with local, state and national entities

 

The event will include:

·         A brief public ceremony honoring veterans (open to all)

·         Lunch (provided free for veterans in attendance—thanks to the generous sponsorship of JVS and CWEA)

·         A Career Exploration event (open to all) that includes: tabling by water and wastewater agencies, a keynote speaker, and a veterans career panel
