FYI. The annual Laney College Career Education Open House is happening on April 28 (Saturday). See details below

This is a great opportunity for students, teachers, parents, counselors, and others to see the excellent manufacturing (and other CTE) programs available at Laney.
And with the college right next to Lake Merritt BART, it’s easily accessible to people throughout the region.

Please forward to others that might be interested as well.

Thanks,
Mark

Interested in How Things are Made?

Hello!

Save the date! The next Career and Technical Education (CTE) Open House will be on Saturday April 28th from10am-2pm.

There has been some confusion  about who can attend and who can apply for a stipend. Below are some answers:

1). Who can attend?

Everyone. We are particularly interested in having high school students, their parents, high school staff and non-profit staff who work with youth to attend the event, but the event is open to anyone who is interested in CTE. We encourage high school and non-profit staff to bring youth.

2). What is the open house?

Almost all of our career and technical education programs will have their classrooms and labs open. Visitors will be free to go at their own pace, Schedules of demos/tours will be handed out. Some will be running demonstrations and some will allow visitors to participate. Others will be running tours of their classroom and facilities. A few will be tabling with information from their program.  We have almost 20 CTE programs. Many of our demos are fun and engaging and visitors can participate in some of them.

3). Do you need to register or pay?

This is a free event, but we ask attendees to register to give us a head count for planning food.
Here is the registration link: HTTP://BIT.LY/CTEOPENHOUSE2018

Please note: Registration is separate from the stipend application. Everyone is required to register but stipend applicants have to register and request stipend paperwork.  Please read below for info on how to apply for a stipend.

4).  How can I apply for a stipend?

We pay stipends to high school teachers and counselors and non-profit staff who work with youth. Starting on February 20th, you can request a stipend application by sending an email to xxxxxx@gmail.com. Please include your name, title, location of work and contact information so that we can verify your information. You will be sent forms to fill out and return to get a vendor number. Once in the system, you will need to come to the event and visit at least 5 departments. We are having discussions about whether applicants need to bring youth in order to qualify for a stipend. I will send out an updated email as soon as it is decided.

I will be traveling until February 14th. Please send me any questions after my return.

Thank you,
Ying Liu
