Hi all,
I know in this time of low unemployment, most people are working and aren’t thinking about going back to school. However, there’s a great opportunity available for those who don’t see long-term potential in their current job, or who are looking
for a change of career.
Laney College in Oakland (next to Lake Merritt BART) has an amazing cohort program for industrial maintenance machinists. This full-time program lasts 9 months, and people are getting careers (not just jobs) in the $20 - $25 / hour range (plus
benefits) plus lots of opportunities for advancement. If you like to be challenged, and to make things, you should check this out. Graduates work at EBMUD, Lawrence Berkeley Labs, LLNL, Tesla, Google, and numerous small shops and start-ups that are cool but
you’ve never heard of (Makani WindPower, Production Robotics, Natel Energy, etc.).
Financial aid is available for those who qualify, and there are extra services (math tutoring, free books) for those in the cohort. Or, if you can’t do full-time, then part-time classes are also available.
Classes start next week. If interested, please contact Kathi Roisen at:

There are two open houses, one on Aug 15 (tonight) and one on Aug. 18 at the Laney Machine Shop (900 Fallon St. Room G-100).
-Wed. August 15th from 6:30pm to 8pm
-Sat. August 18th from 10am to 11:30am
Thanks,
Mark
