Laney College has a Dimensional Metrology class (MACH 211) that is now open for enrollment. It covers the necessary skills and knowledge to perform a wide variety of mechanical and visual inspections. More information on the class is below, along with instructions on how to enroll.

Introduction to Dimensional Metrology

Laney College (Oakland)

SATURDAYS(August 24 - December 7)

9 am - 2 pm

Course Description: MACH 211 covers the necessary skills and knowledge to perform a wide variety of mechanical and visual inspections. This includes training on both equipment and procedures found in typical inspection environments. The general topics and specific equipment are listed below. These items have been identified as being critical to success in wide-ranging quality control applications. However, due to equipment, facility, and part availability, the primary examples used will be in the machined metal parts industry. Nevertheless, the skills taught apply to any inspection situation.

CLASS ENROLLMENT

Details on how to enroll are below.

Note, as a prerequisite for the class, you need to have some basic metrology (calipers and micrometers) and print-reading experience - either from work, or from a classroom setting. If you don’t have that experience, you should enroll in the MACH 210 course at Laney (or another entry-level machining course at one of the other colleges - such as Chabot or De Anza).

1) Get a Peralta student ID.

- If you don’t have one, you’ll need to get a student ID #: http://web.peralta.edu/admissions/question/

- NOTE: When it asks you why you’re taking the certificate, indicate that you are doing it to upgrade skills. Don’t input that you are doing it to get a certificate (that will trigger a requirement to take the assessment test). If you are planning on getting a certificate, no worries, we can update that later.

2) WAIVER FORM: If you haven’t taken Laney’s MACH 210 course, but have the previous experience mentioned above (basic metrology and print reading),

a) fill out the attached PDF waiver form,

b) SIGN IT

c) EMAIL IT to me and to Louis Quindlen (department chair). lquindlen@peralta.edu

3) If the waiver is approved, you will get enrolled in the class automatically (assuming it hasn’t filled up by then). Check your Peralta account 10 days after emailing us the form to make sure it shows you as enrolled.

4) Pay the course tuition & fees (approx. $150) by early August by going to your online account (or in person at Laney). If you don’t pay by then, they will drop you from the class.
