Dear Manufacturers & CC Faculty,
We are organizing a 1-hour Zoom meeting of manufacturing and engineering representatives, along with community college faculty, to determine if there is a need / interest to develop a curriculum covering batteries.

While the basics of batteries are already taught in some community college programs, there might be a need for a more in-depth curriculum that can help train electronic technicians, maintenance technicians, and others to design and work with batteries. Besides the basics of how batteries work, the curriculum could include information around how batteries are designed, tested, maintained, and recycled - as well as new battery innovations being developed. This might be a series of modules, or possibly even a course.

We have a couple of times available (Feb 10 at 10 am, or Feb 17 at 11 am) to meet. Please indicate on this survey form which times youre available. And if you can't make it, you can still give us comments and we'll keep you informed.

This is just an initial meeting to see if there is interest. If there is, we’ll put together a group to take the next steps.

Regards,
Mark Martin, Bay Area Community Colleges
Manuel Covarrubias, Diablo Valley College

P.S. Please forward this to others at your company that might be interested in attending.

BACKGROUND
Batteries are becoming ever more prevalent in products - from scooters, bikes, & cars to usage in grid storage, planes, buses, and more. The Bay Area is a leading innovator in this sector and companies are in need of technicians (and engineers) who understand the technology.

The goal with the curriculum would be to give the technicians coming out of our community colleges the knowledge to work effectively in companies that design or make batteries, or use batteries in their products.

Note: This is NOT to develop an EV class for automotive techs, but rather to develop curriculum that is used by design and manufacturing technicians.
