Hello Everyone,
Kennedy High School in Richmond needs a Welding Instructor immediately. If you know of anyone that would be interested or would like more information, please contact Kenneth Whittemore kwhittemore@wccusd.net or 510 231-1184.
Here is the message we received from the School:
From the school district in Richmond, CA (West Contra Costa Unified): The welding program at Kennedy High School will shut down because there is no teacher. The WCCUSD has advertised the position since June. Students who elected Welding for school's opening in August had to be given other classes. Soon their schedules must be ready for second semester. Are we going to tell them that the career pathway they have chosen is no longer available?
We must act quickly. We recognize that not everyone wants to go to college and that there is a dearth of vocational alternatives, especially at Kennedy High. The District and Chevron, along with the tax payers, have built a $million OSHA approved state-of-the-art metals and fabrication shop. Welders are needed for our refineries, body shops, railroads, port, recycling plants, etc. WE IMMEDIATELY HAVE TO FIND A TEACHER to prepare our students for the work world and stop importing welders from other cities and states! This is our best last chance.
I am looking for a RETIRED welder who, with guidance and support from the District, will obtain a Career Technical Education credential--someone who wants to work with high schoolers and teach a trade that will lead them to a lucrative career. Someone who likes kids and changing lives.
The lab is ready, the curriculum is developed, the community colleges are recruiting for their welding programs, industry and politicians want "local hire," and the students are waiting and hoping....
