Hi,
Below is some information that might be useful for your companies. I know for many of you this might not be directly relevant to your job duties, but more so for your company’s President and C-level team (please forward on to them). Please bear with me on these messages (i.e., don’t unsubscribe yet :-).  As things settle down, I’ll have fewer of these high-level updates, and more that are related to your day-to-day roles.

Thanks!
Mark

WORKFORCE
I realize right now that there’s so much uncertainty and it’s hard to figure out what your workforce needs will be. However, if you do need people because you’re an essential business, and have ramped up due to the type of product you’re making (or because of attrition, illness, etc.) please send me your job postings and I’ll get it out to my ListServ of community college students in the skilled trades.

R&D TAX CREDIT & COVID-19
If you’re not aware of the R&D tax credit & how it might help your company save money in dealing with your company's COVID-19 response, be sure and check with your accountant or tax professional. Here’s a couple of articles talking about this. Even though the end of the tax year is a number of months away, understanding now what you can do to get a credit will ensure you are doing the proper planning, tracking and documentation.

SBA PAYCHECK PROTECTION PROGRAM (PPP)
Just an FYI. I was in a meeting with some manufacturing executives 2 days ago. A couple of the companies said that they had already gotten their PPP forgivable loans (for small businesses under 500 employees) approved and money was supposed to come their way soon. There were other companies that were still waiting to receive approval. So, some good news that this seems to be moving quickly.

9:05 a.m. Friday, April 10, 2020 -- CA Manufacturing COVID-19 Update

1. TODAY'S CMTA WEBINAR -- GO-Biz Deputy Director Kaina Perreira is joining us today to update our attendees on the State's manufacturing repurposing efforts.  Register to join us for CMTA's Zoom webinar regarding CA manufacturing and COVID19.

1. LEGISLATIVE HEARINGS -- Sen. President Pro Tempore Toni Atkins and Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon announced this afternoon in a press release that the Legislature will start holding COVID-19 hearings next week. Details will be forthcoming on how they intend to hold those hearings under continued need for distancing and other related considerations.

2. REPURPOSING - We added 4 new companies to our repurposing list HERE.  A couple important updates on this too:
  1. Our partners at AMBayArea have been working to connect certain manufacturers from this to their local health facilities. We are encouraging folks to do connect locally while the state works through their high level coordination here as well.
  2. The California Association of Wine Grape Growers has asked us to help them get N95 masks to workers in their industry. If you can help please contact Mike Miiller at 916-204-0485 michael@cawg.org.
  3. Our partners at Autodesk have created a site to help manufacturing repurposers that need help with design, open source design, and manufacturing-on-demand HERE.

4. PhRMA EFFORTS -- PhRMA held a webinar earlier this week, and CMTA's Legislative Manager Lawrence Gayden took some good notes to reflect the industry's positive efforts HERE.

5. JOBS -- In March the U.S. lost 18k manufacturing jobs (.01%) and 713k total jobs (.05%) in the private sector.  California's state-specific industry job numbers come out next week, which will be telling, along with the next round of U.S. industry numbers next month.
