The Alameda County Office of Education (ACOE) supports students through our mission to provide, promote, and support leadership and service for the success of every child, in every school, every day.
The Program Director, Green Career Guidance Initiative (GCGI) will launch phase one of an ambitious effort to ensure high school graduates throughout Alameda County are poised to take advantage of the growing number of jobs associated with society’s green transition. There is already a deficit of skilled tradespeople as a result of decades of disinvestment in vocational education. And as we move away from fossil fuel extraction and consumption and build natural and technical solutions for drawing-down greenhouse gasses, there will be significant growth in jobs associated with energy efficiency, electrification of buildings and transportation systems, and nature based climate change mitigation and adaptation. The urgency of this need provides an important opportunity for ACOE to support local school districts to build their capacity to guide students into these careers.
Starting in the 2024-2025 School Year Education & Experience: Certificates: Valid CA teaching credential (required) -At least one year leading a team of three or more staff. This can be in a supervisory capacity, or a more informal role such as department lead, pathway/small learning community lead, instructional leadership team lead, etc. -At least three of the following: 3+ years experience providing instruction or coaching to 16-24 year olds in or out of school and associated with career technical education, career planning or advancement. This could be in the context of a high school, union, or college. 3+ years successfully helping Black and Brown youth from low income families achieve academically and/or professionally. 3+ years experience as a high school or college counselor. 1+ years in the skilled trades, clean energy, or on nature based climate solutions. 1+ years building complex data systems for collecting and tracking individuals moving through steps in work flows and/or tracking the development of inter-entity partnerships. 1+ years cultivating partnerships with employers, unions and community organizations to build work based learning programs. Writing grants of $500,000 or more and/or managing budgets of that size.

Subject: ACOE is hiring for the Green Career Guidance Initiative
Date: March 26, 2024 at 10:05:14 AM PDT
Hi CERF - ALCO folks,
As I shared at the CERF / ALCO table this morning - Alameda County Office of Education will be launching an initiative to equip high school seniors and their counselors/advisors with the knowledge, skills, and networks to find their way into the skilled trades and other green careers - building off the career awareness and exploration work Emiliano Sanchez has been doing for years out of OUSD! The work will lift up the opportunities ALL of you are building.
Our first hire is for a Program Director position
This is the first of four positions ACOE intends to hire for to provide more layers of support for students across northern Alameda County pursuing the trades/green jobs. In mid April I expect a "Career Guide" position to post for the three remaining positions who will be providing direct service for our young people and coaching around these career paths for all our post-secondary counseling staff.
Please spread the word far and wide about these positions.
The application deadline for the Program Director position is set for 4/2.
I know this date is soon, but we need to move fast given where we are at in the spring hiring season. If you turn up an excellent candidate who can not meet that deadline, let me know as an extension may be possible. ACOE only requires a letter and resume, no letters of reference, by the deadline so hoping that won't be needed.
For the Program Director, we are looking for someone with a teaching credential and a unique combination of skills and knowledge:
- Team leadership
- Knowledge of instruction and high school structures
- Knowledge of skilled trades pathways
Thanks all!
Greg
